Day 1 & 2 – Wednesday 20 April 2011 – Thursday 21 April 2011

Met up with my good friend Katie today, we met and worked together in college (Webster University). She randomly had a vacation planned in the DR during the time that I was here so a big reason to come to Puerto Plata was to see her. I headed over to Katie’s resort (Be Live Carey) and spent the next two days being silly and watching these pasty white girls (Katie had friends) get burnt in the sun. :)
On the second day her hotel treated me like a criminal and Katie let them have it. It was really amusing and uncomfortable at the same time. I guess that’s what happens when a Dominican male comes to visit a white girl at a nice resort… eyebrows get raised. But it didn’t matter, we still had a good time.
Day 3 & 4 – Friday 22 April 2011 – Saturday 23 April 2011
Back in my hotel for the last couple of days. Pretty relaxed for the most part. Most notably was the fact that I went to the sea-food restaurant on site (El Pescador – reservation only) by myself. Every single person in there was very confused to why the reservation was for one but as I told the hostess “You can’t force these things” to which she laughed uncontrollably.
A few months ago a good friend of mine pointed out the fact that I’m afraid of being alone. I disregarded this statement right away but then really began to think about it. I had someone to meet every single night after work, whether it be for dinner or a movie or just a coffee I never had a night where I just went home and spent time with myself.
So a big part of this trip has been to not only be alone but also to do things alone, dealing with the questions that come along the way.
On my final day I went to the Spa and had a sauna session followed by a massage – the first ever professional massage in my life. Got to pamper yourself sometimes… or at least that’s what Lindsey always says.
So I left Blue Bay Villas (I highly recommend this resort). On returning to Bonao (the trip was difficult but not worth explaining) I had nothing to do so I watched Little Boy Albert fly his garbage bag kite.
Day 5, 6 & 7 – Sunday 24 April 2011 – Tuesday 26 April 2011
Spent the rest of the week hanging out with Doña Glady, her grand daughter Carla who has come up from the Capital and my TÃo Joel and TÃa Olympia. Since my time is coming to an end I need to spend as much time as I can with these people, who knows when I will see them again.
